Book Review: Birth Journeys

This, in my humble opinion, is THE BEST collection of birth stories available.
And I have read many.

Birth Journeys - positive birth stories to encourage and inspireby Leonie MacDonald

This is my favourite because it is written for an Australian audience.  Whilst birth, biologically and evolutionary speaking, does not discriminate by arbitrary borders, culturally it does.  Whilst stories from other parts of the world can be inspiring and encouraging, the details can be misleading.  Particularly when that birth is in a medical setting.  It is very important, when preparing for your own birth, to read stories that also give your clues and information that are applicable to what you are likely to come across.

Birth Journeys contains a broad range of stories, all of them positive.  Written by the people who experienced it.  This book takes it a step further though, with the stories set out in categories, so you can find one that resonates with you.  Whether it is your first birth or a next birth.  But it doesn't end there!  Throughout the book, you will find articles by professional contributors on a range of issues surrounding birth.  These articles are a fabulous insight into the secrets of birth and beyond.

Overall, what makes this book the stand out among birth story collections is it's inclusiveness and unbias approach, the factual information provided and the positiveness.  This positive approach is vital, as most women will be inundated with 'horror stories', or be encouraged to give their power, dignity and courage up, and accept whatever is done to you.  This book recognises that birth does NOT happen to you, it happens because of you.  You can be prepared for and at the centre of your own story.  This book provides you with knowledge of the full range of options, so you can fine Your Way.
