This post provides links, highlights in blue, to get you started in making an informed decision regarding 'GBS'.
The links will provide explanation about what GBS is, what testing does, and what treatments are offered. They provide evidence based information about your options. GBS testing is part of the routine procedures offered in pregnancy, and as with all these procedures requires informed consent (or refusal). Take the time to understand GBS, and the testing and outcomes if you test positive. If it is important to you not to have this test, you may need to find a care provider that supports this, as some care providers require it in order to assess your 'status'. If you refuse the test, some care providers will 'treat' you as positive. It is important to ascertain whether your care provider will do this. As the test is offered late in pregnancy, you may find yourself facing this decision with limited time. My hope is that you are reading this early in pregnancy, and can make an assessment of your options and change care providers if necessary. It is possible to change care providers late in pregnancy, though this can be very stressful.
