You want to make an informed decision, but you can't get a straight answer?
How do you decide if there is a hidden agenda behind someone's advice?
Whether it is the division between the opposing camps for homebirth, vaccination, breastfeeding, sleep training, introducing solids or even homeschooling, each side stands firm and feels enlightened, like they and they alone hold The Great Knowledge.
So who is right?
Well....all of them and none of them.
This is why parenting can be so stressful. There are as many ways to parent as there are children born, and each parent must approach each birth as a unique event and each child as a unique being. There is no one-size-fits-all. No manual.
As you start your research, you will find some information resonates with you and other information gets your back up!
Go with that instinct.
As you become familiar with the different ideas, you might start to notice the sources. Some sources will seem dodgy (like a formula company hosting a breastfeeding helpline) and others may seem to focus alot on product placement. Some sources will be research articles, some peer reviewed, others not. Some will be up front about who funded the research, others not. Some web-based information (like this) will be put together by ordinary people, and consitute mainly opinion and personal experience of varying degrees of usefulness. These may serve as starting blocks.
There is no simple answer for all...but there will be a right answer for you. You will weigh up all the different sources (opinions and facts) to come to your informed decision.
Knowledge is Power.
