Information Policy

I have built this website to filter out the misleading, inaccurate and utterly wrong information flooding the internet.  This makes it both overwhelming and underwhelming when trying to navigate your options for pregnancy, birth and beyond.  To get a place on this website, information must be scientific, kind and free of advertising: which is why the links are gold.

information must be scientific
Scientific means asking questions, placing information in new contexts, and then asking more questions. The information should be applied in an 'evidence based' way, which means it's practical application is based on the best information available.  Evidence based information is also a personalised and flexible approach which places the information in the context of the individual.
from this BMJ article What does evidence based actually mean:
evidence-based practice (EBP) does not come easily to many. It requires us to be skeptical, to question our knowledge and beliefs, to identify the key questions, and to not be afraid to admit we don’t have all the answers.
There are facts in Medicine in the science of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology etc.; however, Medicine is often referred to as an art, and treatment choices are exactly that – a choice. Therefore within medical practice, decisions are constantly being made. EBM is about making those decisions transparent and reducing bias as much as possible. Not just bias in study results, although this is an important area, equally important is involving everyone in the decision: a multidisciplinary team which includes the patient, and their values and preferences, at its heart. By identifying where a decision is being made, acknowledging and communicating the choices involved and their implications, the best decision can be reached for and with an individual.
information must be kind
To be kind, the information is presented in a non-judgmental, non-dictatory way: the information is presented on the assumption that you are an awesome and capable individual.

information is free of paid advertising
This website serves to promote Informed Birth Preparation, which includes my book and Birth Cartographer training.  This website is free of paid advertising, there are no google pop ups or strategically placed ads, as I only want to endorse evidence-based and kind information.  Some of the links may lead to websites selling something (usually a book or course),  none are affiliate links.  These have passed my filter.

Beyond that - the internet is big! Take care.
